Joint statement by the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Council, and the President of the European Parliament

Three years ago, Russia began its large-scale illegal war against Ukraine, targeting civilians and critical infrastructure. Ukrainians show bravery in defending their country and international law principles. We honor those who have sacrificed for Ukraines freedom.

Russia is solely responsible for this war and the atrocities committed. We call for accountability for war crimes. We welcome the steps towards a Special Tribunal for aggression against Ukraine.

The EU swiftly united to support Ukraine with EUR 135 billion in economic, humanitarian, and military aid, including EUR 48.7 billion in military assistance. The EU will continue to support Ukraine, including post-war reconstruction.

Russia pays the price for its leaders actions. Unprecedented sanctions have been imposed, and we are ready to increase pressure to limit their war capabilities. Profits from frozen Russian assets are used to support Ukraine. Today, a sixteenth sanctions package was adopted.

Actions to strengthen the European defense industry allow us to increase military support for Ukraine and improve our defense capacity.

Ukraine is part of our European family. Ukrainians want EU membership, and we have granted candidate status. Ukraine progresses in accession reforms. Its future lies within the EU.

In a challenging international context, we stress the importance of transatlantic and global solidarity with Ukraine. Continued international support is needed for a just and lasting peace.

We stand firm with Ukraine, affirming that peace, security, and justice will prevail.
