The second meeting of the EU-India Trade and Technology Council took place in New Delhi on 28 February 2025. It was chaired by key representatives from both sides, including Henna Virkkunen and Maros Šefčovič from the EU and Dr. S. Jaishankar and Shri Piyush Goyal from India.
This council, established by Ursula von der Leyen and Narendra Modi in April 2022, serves as a platform to address challenges at the intersection of trade, technology, and security. The EU and India, both large democracies with open market economies, are natural partners in a multipolar world.
Both parties emphasized the importance of a rules-based international order and strengthening cooperation in digital transformation and green technologies. They agreed that collaboration in these areas can enhance economic growth and security.
The working groups discussed strategic technologies, digital connectivity, green technologies, and resilient value chains. They highlighted the need for interoperability of digital infrastructure, cooperation in semiconductors, and the development of sustainable energy solutions.
Additionally, collaboration in AI, digital skills, and e-mobility was strengthened. The EU and India worked on harmonizing standards and promoting talent exchange.
They agreed to continue dialogue and cooperation, aiming for further progress at the councils third meeting within a year.
