Leaders Statement following the visit of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and College of Commissioners to India, 27-28 February 2025

Prime Minister Modi and President von der Leyen confirmed the significant benefits of the EU-India Strategic Partnership. They are committed to elevating this partnership, building on over 20 years of collaboration.

President von der Leyen led the EU College of Commissioners on a landmark visit to India, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations. As large democracies, both sides emphasized their commitment to a stable global order, promoting economic growth and sustainable development.

The leaders agreed on the importance of shared values such as democracy and the rule of law. They stressed the need for cooperation in trade, technology, and sustainability, including addressing global challenges like climate change and terrorism.

Significant progress was noted in the India-EU Trade and Technology Council, fostering collaboration in trade, technology, and green transition. Specific outcomes include advancing an FTA and cooperation in emerging technologies and sustainable industries.

Concrete steps include concluding an FTA, enhancing cooperation in defence, and promoting green energy and sustainable development. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and expressed satisfaction with growing defence cooperation.

They discussed global issues, including the Middle East and Ukraine, supporting a peaceful resolution based on international law. This visit is seen as a milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership, with plans for the next India-EU Summit.
