Station Action Hollands Spoor

Control in Trains, Trams and on Platforms

On Wednesday, February 12, police, enforcers, and inspectors from NS, HTM, and the Municipality of The Hague were active during a control around Hollands Spoor station. From arrests in the tram to fining fare dodgers and taxi drivers without permits, these and other violations were discovered during the action.

Hollands Spoor station is the oldest station in The Hague and, unlike The Hague Central, is a through station. Every day, many travelers enter or leave the city at the station and its surroundings. Safety and livability are under pressure in this area. There is alcohol and drug nuisance, begging, bicycle and shoplifting, and a lot of travel without a valid ticket by tram or train. With yesterdays action at Hollands Spoor station, the cooperating services aim to contribute to the safety and livability around the station area.

Ticket Checks for Train and Tram

All southbound trains go via Hollands Spoor towards Rotterdam and it is easy to travel to other parts of the city by tram from the station. At the station and on the trains, NS took action, and the Police Unit The Hague supported the action around the station area. The police made two arrests for running away from a care institution and one person had to give DNA to the police in Rotterdam. A total of 1,514 scans were carried out on train travelers tickets. They caught 27 travelers without a valid ticket. Four fines were issued for not being able to show a valid ID and for following a traveler who just checked in to get through the check-in gates. Two tickets were confiscated for traveling with someone elses ticket. A confused traveler was picked up by NS employees and handed over to the police in Delft, where he will be further assisted. HTM inspectors checked a total of 71 passing trams. A total of 119 fines were issued for fare evasion.

Bicycles Removed and Nuisance Tackled

Around the station, there are bicycle parking facilities and taxi stands next to the tram stops. Municipal employees removed 81 bicycles and labeled bicycles. The locks on several wrongly parked bicycles were cut, and the bicycles were transported to the bicycle depot. The enforcement organization ensures that the neighborhoods in the city remain livable. A total of 13 fines were issued by enforcers, including 11 for wrong parking and two for driving on the sidewalk. Six fines were issued for begging, drinking alcohol in public, and four fines were issued for parking scooters outside the designated areas. During the taxi control, four taxi drivers were fined for, among other things, standing at the taxi stand without a permit and not having a valid pass to park at the taxi stand. Besides enforcement, providing care for homeless people is important. For this reason, Barka and Salvation Army made extra rounds before and after the action to support those in need where possible.

See Something Suspicious? Reporting Helps!
