Murder Case in Loenen aan de Vecht Concluded Due to Suspects Death

A 56-year-old man from Loenen aan de Vecht passed away on January 31, 2025, in the prison in Nieuwegein. The man, who was in pre-trial detention, was suspected of having killed his partner on January 1, 2024, in Loenen aan de Vecht. With the suspects death, the criminal investigation into the murder will have to be concluded.

During the next hearing, which is currently scheduled for April 8, the public prosecutor will immediately ask the court to declare the Public Prosecution Service (OM) inadmissible in the prosecution. Article 69 of the Penal Code states that the right to prosecution lapses upon the death of the suspect.

The cause of death of the man does not involve a criminal offense. For privacy reasons, the OM cannot comment on how the man died. The OM is aware that it is particularly unsatisfactory for the victims relatives that the criminal case will not be heard, leaving them with many questions.
