This morning shortly after 8:00 AM, a crane ship working on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal collided with high voltage cables.

No one was injured in the incident. The Amsterdam-Rhine Canal was completely closed to shipping traffic near Diemen from 8:18 AM. The waterway was reopened at 3:45 PM.

The traffic posts in Schellingwoude and Wijk bij Duurstede kept shipping informed of the situation. At kilometer 5, near Diemen, two high voltage cables of 150 kW broke and fell into the water. A third cable was heavily damaged.

According to a spokesperson from TenneT, the damage did not affect the power supply in the region. TenneT is preparing a recovery operation that will require two temporary closures. More information will be communicated as it becomes available.
