Subsidy for Amsterdam Neighborhood Media

Neighborhood media such as newspapers, websites, and local radio and TV stations are essential in Amsterdam. They inform residents easily about their neighborhood. We want to support these independent media in the future with a subsidy of €800,000 for 2025 and 2026.

Almost 60% of Amsterdammers use neighborhood media to stay informed about local events. These media serve as the ears and eyes of the neighborhood and often arise from the initiative of residents, who contribute voluntarily. Until now, there was no clear municipal regulation for supporting neighborhood media. Each district had different funding. The new subsidy regulation provides tailored support for each district and in the Weesp area. The districts are now working on implementing this regulation. Stay updated on district news.

Policy on Neighborhood Media

The regulation is based on the previously approved policy framework Neighborhood Media Amsterdam 2024-2026. This framework focuses on preserving neighborhood media while promoting innovation, talent development, and professionalization. It also establishes a clear system for mapping future individual grants per district more easily.

This policy was developed in collaboration with the 7 districts and the Weesp area and was approved by the Amsterdam city council last July.
