A 40-year-old man appeared in court today because he had collided with activists blocking the A12 with his car. The Public Prosecution Service demanded community service.
On July 2, 2024, activists from Extinction Rebellion blocked the A12 in The Hague. The defendant had driven onto the A12 with his car and past the demonstrators. After passing the blockade, he braked and drove backward. He stopped just before the activists, got out, and told them to move away.
The defendant then got back in and slowly drove a short distance backward. In doing so, his car hit an activist and also a barrel to which several activists had chained themselves with an arm.
Sentence Request
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the defendant is guilty of assaulting two activists and threatening two others. The public prosecutor demanded a community service of 80 hours, of which 20 are conditional, and a conditional driving ban of six months.
The police judge immediately ruled and sentenced the defendant to an unconditional community service of 30 hours.
