Expansion of Suspicions in the Tarwekamp Case

Three of the four men allegedly involved in the explosion on December 7 at Tarwekamp in The Hague are suspected of murder or manslaughter of six individuals, as well as attempted murder of others present in the apartment block, arson resulting in death, arson of a vehicle, and preparing arson on December 1. Today, the amended summons was issued for the preliminary hearing on March 14.

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, an explosion and an arson occurred at Tarwekamp in The Hague around 6:15 AM. Several homes collapsed due to the explosion. Six people died, and four were injured and taken to the hospital. Homes and business premises around the directly affected block were severely damaged.

In the days that followed, four men were arrested: a 33-year-old man from Rotterdam, a 29-year-old man, and a 23-year-old man from Roosendaal, and a 33-year-old man from Oosterhout. They are detained on suspicion of arson on December 7 and preparatory acts for arson on December 1. For the man from Rotterdam and the men from Roosendaal, the suspicion of (attempted) murder/manslaughter has now been added.

200 liters of gasoline

The investigation revealed that approximately 200 liters of gasoline were used to start a fire in the bridal shop at Tarwekamp, which was the target. The gasoline was reportedly poured over bridal gowns and inside the store.

The summons has today been issued to (the lawyers of) the suspects. The victims have also been informed about this expansion. A further explanation will be provided by the public prosecutors during the first public preliminary hearing at the court on March 14.
