Perhaps you are already familiar with the television series The Story of the Netherlands, in which actor Daan Schuurmans experiences Dutch history as a witness. Because of our 750th anniversary, there is now also a version specifically for Amsterdam.
The series shows how the city has changed over the centuries: from the fight against the water in the 12th century to the squatter movement in the 1980s. And from the wealthy merchants in the 17th century to the first marriage of same-sex couples, as we called it in 2001. Nowadays, we just call it marriage.

50,000 students can watch the movie for free
A special film has also been made from clips from the series. This film tells the history of Amsterdam in 78 minutes. For the 750th anniversary of the city, 50,000 Amsterdam high school students and vocational students can watch the film for free in Pathé cinemas.
Schools can register until March 26 via youth foundation Young Impact to take advantage of this offer.
