Traffic Disruption Due to Weekend Closures A4 and Work on the Railway

During the weekends of March 14 to 17 and March 21 to 24, there will be significant traffic disruption on the south side of Amsterdam. Rijkswaterstaat will carry out work that will completely close the A4 to traffic heading to Amsterdam, between the Badhoevedorp and De Nieuwe Meer interchanges. This may lead to an extra travel time of one hour.

Additionally, Prorail will work on a new platform at Amsterdam Zuid station between March 12 and 26. This will result in an adjusted timetable. This means fuller trains and more congestion on the platforms. This can also cause disruption.

When?

The closures are from:

  • Friday, March 14 at 22:00 to Monday, March 17 at 05:00
  • Friday, March 21 at 22:00 to Monday, March 24 at 05:00

The work at Zuid station will take place between Wednesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 26.

For whom?

Motorists coming from Haarlem, Schiphol, or Amstelveen via the A4 to Amsterdam will face the closures. The entrance and exit Amsterdam-Sloten towards A4 Amsterdam/Zaanstad are also closed.

Which roads are closed?

  • A4 towards Amsterdam/Zaanstad from the Badhoevedorp interchange

  • Entrance (and exit) Amsterdam-Sloten towards A4 Amsterdam

  • Connection from A9 from Haarlem

  • Connection Amstelveen towards A4 Amsterdam

For the work at Amsterdam Zuid station, we will also close 2 lanes of the A10 South towards A1 Hengelo/A2 Utrecht during the weekend of March 14 to 17. Traffic from A10 West will be able to use the remaining lanes.

How can you drive?

Are you heading towards Amsterdam-West/Zaandam? Then you can drive from:

  • Amsterdam-Zuid via A10 East and A10 North
  • A1 and A2 via A10 East and A10 North
  • A4/A9 via A9 and A5
  • A5 via exit 3: follow the diversion signs

Are you heading towards Amsterdam-Zuid/Almere? Then you can use A9, A2, and A10 South.

Check your journey

We expect a lot of traffic around Amsterdam and on roads to Badhoevedorp and Nieuw-West. Therefore, consider using public transport. If this is not possible, check your route before departure using apps like TomTom Go, Waze, or Google Maps. If you are traveling via Zuid station, please take into account the work on the new platform.

Personal travel advice

You can also request personal travel advice from Ask&Go. Ask&GO is reachable via Askandgo.nl and WhatsApp via 085-0659091. You can also sign up via WhatsApp to be notified in advance of a closure.

Why are there works?

Between the Amstel interchange and the De Nieuwe Meer interchange, the highway is expanding from 4 to 6 lanes in each direction. This means 4 lanes for through traffic and 2 for destination traffic, ensuring better flow. There will also be work on 14 existing viaducts around the De Nieuwe Meer interchange, and a flyover will be constructed that connects the A4 with the A10 South.

Additionally, quieter asphalt will be laid and extra noise barriers will be installed to reduce noise pollution for local residents. With these adjustments, the A10 South will not only be wider but also safer and more comfortable for road users.
