Various Irregularities Found During Automotive Inspection by HEIT

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, the Hague Economic Intervention Team (HEIT) conducted an integrated inspection at several companies in The Hague and Rijswijk. Several irregularities were found, notably the discovery of a significant number of expensive diagnostic devices and blank keys for luxury car brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Land Rover, and BMW.

During inspections at various locations, including Westvlietweg and business parks ZKD (Zichtenburg, Kerketuinen & Dekkershoek) in The Hague and Plaspoelpolder in Rijswijk, different partners examined whether the businesses complied with applicable laws and regulations. Special attention was given to criminal offenses such as vehicle crime, environmental violations, permit conditions, and potential employees working illegally.

Irregularities

During the inspection day, the police found a flagged vehicle, indicating it might be stolen or have other issues. More than 50 invalid license plates were seized for destruction, and 16 laptops and several diagnostic devices were confiscated for investigation. These devices are often used to program blank car keys to stolen vehicles. The Municipality of The Hague discovered a residence above a garage, conflicting with zoning plans and posing a safety hazard. The business owner had to vacate the residence the same day, and the municipality imposed a penalty to ensure compliance.

One worker was found to be receiving benefits. Further investigation will determine if these benefits are being rightfully provided. At a garage, four employees were found who likely are not authorized to work in the Netherlands. The Dutch Labor Inspectorate has been notified and will assess the situation. Finally, various environmental violations were noted, unapproved goods intended for export were found in several containers, and hundreds of vehicles were checked by the police. Further investigation is required to determine if these vehicles are involved in irregularities.

HEIT

HEIT is a collaboration between municipalities, Police, Tax Administration, Customs, Dutch Labor Inspectorate, UWV, environmental service, and the NVWA. “The team works within the police unit The Hague to tackle fraudulent businesses,” says HEIT. This ensures we remain vigilant against inappropriate activities.
