Do you have problems crossing streets or using your walker? Report it to Liesbeth Mobach, our new mobility coach: Feel free to speak to me.
You may have already seen her because Liesbeth Mobach from the municipality often walks through Oosterflank and Het Lage Land. She encourages: ‘Speak to me’, says the mobility coach. ‘For example, about awkward sidewalks or busy intersections.’
Mobility is about moving well and quickly in an area. Liesbeth says: ‘How do you get from A to B if you walk, bike, or drive? If residents have complaints, I see who can solve it. Sometimes its simple. If change isnt possible, I explain why and find another route. As a contact point, I ask questions, which is important. Sometimes a chat is enough.’
Research
Liesbeth’s role arose from a study in Oosterflank and Het Lage Land. To improve mobility, residents were asked: how is it to walk, cycle, or drive? What does the future look like?
200 conversations were held and 177 residents completed a survey. Wishes from young and old were also collected.
In addition to the desire for a contact point, residents want better flow at intersections like the Evenaar and Prins Alexanderlaan. Crossings for cyclists and pedestrians can also improve. Additionally, greener walking routes and more public transport are desired.
No Sacred Cow
More than three-quarters of those surveyed own a car, mainly for work. Liesbeth: ‘But is it really necessary to have 1 or 2 cars? There are other ways to travel. A car is no sacred cow. I walk and bike, and use shared and public transport. Maybe this year I can get 1 or 2 people out of the car. Ambitious, I know!’
She concludes: ‘We tackle mobility in the neighborhoods together. I hope people will contact me if they have something to share and feel heard.’
