From March 3 to March 14, 2025, Public Works and Water Management will remove trees along the Twentekanalen, the Meppelerdiep, and Zwarte Water. The trees are sick or dead and pose a danger to the environment.

During the annual tree safety inspection by Public Works and Water Management along the Twentekanalen, Zwarte Water, and Meppelerdiep, specialists identified 54 dead, sick, and risky trees.

The trees are being removed because they pose a risk to the environment. They can lose branches or fall during strong winds or drought. In a later phase, the trees will be compensated. If replanting at the same location is possible, we will execute it. If not, we will compensate the trees as close as possible to the original site.

Nesting Birds

The work will take place between March 3 and 14. This avoids the period from March 15 to September 15, as most birds breed during this time. This way, we minimize disturbance to birds and other wildlife.

Tree Cutting Disturbance

During the work, we use hand tools, such as chainsaws, and large machines, like cranes and trucks.

For safety reasons, it may be necessary to place partial closures during the work. Plots and homes will remain accessible to residents.
