In the week of February 24, 2025, construction work will begin at the parking lot at the Hospital site next to the Hospital garage. This is a week earlier than planned.
This means that part of the parking spaces at the Hospital site will temporarily not be available. The majority will remain accessible. This work is in preparation for the construction of the new location for Windesheim University.
Windesheim will soon offer more space to students in our city, in a building that they have designed and built themselves. Young people from Almere will have the opportunity to pursue education in the city where they live. This will help us retain talent for our city,” says Alderman for Higher Education and City Development Maaike Veeningen.
At part of the Hospital site, cobblestones, cables, pipes, light poles, and sewage will be removed. Later, the exit from the Hospital garage will be relocated to make room for the construction work and to create a safe construction site. This will ensure that the Hospital garage remains accessible during the construction of the new Windesheim location. The upcoming work will take place during the day and may cause noise disturbances.
Parking
During busy times, visitors can also park in the Munt, Flevo, Schipper, and Schout garages and the Koolzaadveld (at Festival Square). The Hennepveld also offers parking space. People with a parking permit for the Hospital site can also park at the Hennepveld and Koolzaadveld.
Expansion of the parking garage
The expected timeline is that the work will take approximately six weeks. This timeline may change due to unforeseen (weather) circumstances.
The development of the new Windesheim building also includes the expansion of the Hospital garage. The closed parking spaces at the Hospital site will be available again once this garage is completed. For now, the municipality cannot provide a timeline for the expansion of the Hospital garage. This will be addressed later.
