The neighborhood approach Together for Overvecht has been selected by the Government as one of the four neighborhoods to receive an additional boost for improving livability, safety, and future prospects for residents. In this so-called sixth installment of the Regional Deal Vital Neighborhoods, the Government contributes to strong regions to ensure good living, housing, and working conditions.
In Overvecht, residents, entrepreneurs, and partners have been working together for years towards a strong and future-proof neighborhood. With initiatives such as the job market, where hundreds of students are introduced to various professions each year, and the redesign of the Orinocodreef, much has already been achieved. At the same time, challenges remain, such as poverty, job insecurity, and an aging living environment. The new Regional Deal makes it possible to address these issues. We improve public spaces, increase access to work, and strengthen social cohesion in the neighborhood.
Overvecht: A Neighborhood in Motion
“We see the granting of the proposition as enormous support from the Government for the neighborhood approach Together for Overvecht. Reducing the setbacks in Overvecht requires endurance,” says Alderman Rachel Streefland. “The investments offer residents in Overvecht more security and perspective. Children and young people receive extra support, for instance, through the expansion of the Family School and initiatives to enhance digital resilience. The neighborhood becomes greener and safer, with more meeting places and play areas for children. By working together with residents and partners, we build an Overvecht that everyone can be proud of and fully participate in.”
Building Resilient Neighborhoods Together
The new Regional Deal builds on the successes of recent years within the first Regional Deal, such as the work movement in Overvecht, the redesign of the Muntplein in Nieuwegein, and preventive care in Vollenhove in Zeist. This year, Amersfoort also joins with the neighborhood approach in Liendert. The additional resources make it possible to reduce setbacks, seize opportunities, and increase the broad prosperity in the neighborhoods. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, neighborhoods are developed where residents feel safe and at home, and where everyone can participate.
How Does a Regional Deal Work?
In a Regional Deal, regions come up with plans and ideas to tackle challenges. In the sixth round, 27 proposals were submitted. The selection considered four aspects: the challenge (how large, urgent, and complex); the approach (how integrated is the challenge addressed); the finances (which parties co-invest and how much); and the organization (how regional governments, residents, and companies are involved). The central question in the assessment was always how the approach contributes to strengthening the broad prosperity of residents and entrepreneurs in the relevant region.
