The priority for the European Commission is to help bring European citizens stranded in the Gulf region safely back home. The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has already been activated by 18 countries and has helped over 1,000 EU citizens return to Europe on 10 flights organised under it. When at least 30% of seats are offered to other EU nationals, the European Commission can co-finance up to 75% of the transport costs, supporting Member States in organising flights and logistics in close cooperation with consular authorities. The EU and its Member States work together to bring its citizens home safely.
