Collaboration for growth of the high-tech cluster
The municipality of Almelo has signed a collaboration and letter of intent with three leading high-tech companies: Aeronamic, Urenco, and ETC Netherlands. This agreement lays the foundation for future area development and the preservation of high-quality employment in Almelo.
Aeronamic, Urenco, and ETC Netherlands have been closely connected for years within Almelo’s high-tech cluster. Urenco and ETC Netherlands have expansion plans due to the sharply increased international demand for their products. In doing so, ETC Netherlands and Urenco contribute to the transition toward a CO₂-free, independent, and reliable energy mix for businesses, households, and governments worldwide. To accommodate this growth, it is important for Aeronamic to relocate to a new site. Steffen de Vries, CEO of Aeronamic, states: “The high-tech cluster in Almelo has long been a place where innovation and collaboration come together. With this step, we ensure that this remains the case in the future.”
New location for Aeronamic
A feasibility study will be launched to assess the relocation of Aeronamic to a nearby new-build site on the southeast side of the Bornsestraat industrial estate, at the intersection of Bavinkelsweg, Bornsestraat, and Grote Bavenkelsweg. These plots are owned by Urenco. The study will examine spatial, financial, policy-related, and urban planning aspects. Alderman Jeffrey Hinnen says: “As a municipality, we want to be as supportive as possible of the challenges entrepreneurs face. Where possible, we try to work together to find solutions. Preserving employment and businesses in Almelo is important to us.”
Preserving high-quality employment
Through this collaboration and the potential relocation of Aeronamic, Almelo’s strong high-tech cluster will be preserved and made future-proof.
