Birds from Pekingtuin Aviary Moving to Hertenkamp
In the first week of April, the birds from the aviary in Pekingtuin will move to Hertenkamp. There, they will join the birds already residing there. The animal caretakers of Hertenkamp are already taking care of these birds as well.
Budget Choices
Like many other municipalities, Baarn faces budget cuts in the coming years. Starting in 2026, municipalities will receive less money from the national government. Therefore, during the budget discussion in October, the municipal council decided that the municipality will no longer cover the costs for the aviary and Hertenkamp. Keeping animals is not a legal duty of the municipality.
The municipality is in talks with Stichting Hertenkamp about the possibility of the foundation taking over the management of Hertenkamp and the aviary in the future. The foundation is working on a plan of action for this.
New Plans for the Aviary Location
With the removal of the aviary, space is created for new plans. The location will eventually be included in the plans for Atelier Langs Jan. This municipal building has plans for a meeting place for children and young people, for example, for homework guidance, creative activities, and youth work. Children, young people, and neighbors will be involved in the further development.
Schedule
The birds will move to Hertenkamp on April 1. On April 8, the aviary in Pekingtuin will be dismantled. After that, the location will be temporarily arranged with planting.
