Municipality of Bergen, Destion and De Zorggroep explore redevelopment possibilities for Maasduinen Staete

The Municipality of Bergen, housing corporation Destion and De Zorggroep signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, 11 March, to explore the redevelopment of Maasduinen Staete in Nieuw Bergen. Through this letter of intent, the parties agree to investigate whether the plans are feasible and, if so, how follow-up agreements will be made.

The municipality, Destion and De Zorggroep have been in discussions for some time about the future of Maasduinen Staete. The renewed building is intended to accommodate (social) rental housing, rental and living spaces for care, meeting places and community functions for all residents of the Municipality of Bergen.

Importance for all parties

With the proposed redevelopment, the parties are taking an important step towards the future of housing, care and community in the municipality. Although the building is only 25 years old, its current functional layout no longer meets the demands of today.

As owner, Destion is interested in a sustainable and future-proof building. This aligns with Destion’s strategic plan, which prioritises creating vital communities and liveable neighbourhoods. One way to contribute to this is by bringing together different groups of residents to encourage interaction and social cohesion.

For De Zorggroep, it is important that new forms of cohabitation, living and care emerge, so that people can age comfortably now and in the future, with support and care available when needed. The redevelopment offers the opportunity to further shape this within the "Goed voor Elkaar" (Good for Each Other) living concept.

The Municipality of Bergen supports the plan to make Maasduinen Staete more sustainable and transform it. The redevelopment will make a significant contribution to the municipality’s goals in the areas of housing and strengthening liveability by ensuring long-term availability of space for community functions.

Feasibility study

The letter of intent states that the parties will investigate whether the redevelopment of Maasduinen Staete is financially and practically viable. If the study shows that the plans are feasible, the letter of intent also includes the conditions under which the parties can make follow-up agreements.
