Starting March 5, 2026, the municipality of Breda is launching a pilot at Chasséveld to help construction companies work cleaner and quieter. The site will have special charging points where electric construction vehicles can be quickly charged. This allows construction in and around the city center to continue with less emissions and less disturbance for residents. The pilot runs until December 2027. Alderman Peter Bakker and director Ronson Wullems of Elshout Breda officially opened the charging plaza today.

Cleaner construction

Breda wants and needs to build increasingly cleaner. To improve air quality, reduce CO₂ emissions, and limit noise, vibration, and odor nuisance in the city, more and more construction companies are switching to emission-free construction machines and vehicles. To build fully electrically, reliable charging points are essential. “Chasséveld has a large existing electricity connection for events,” explains Alderman Peter Bakker (Energy and Sustainability). “This connection is used only a few weeks a year and therefore has a lot of residual capacity. By smartly using this hidden capacity, the municipality can support construction projects in and around the city center while contributing to a grid-conscious, future-proof energy infrastructure. This project shows how circularity and sustainability go hand in hand: we use what already exists, reduce emissions, and make the city healthier and cleaner.”
