Over the past year, municipalities, housing corporations, care and welfare organizations, and interest groups in the Baronie region have united to address the significant challenges in housing, welfare, and care. The urgency is high. There are too few suitable homes, and the number of people needing support and care is growing. Additionally, costs are rising, and there is increasingly less staff available. Based on this, legal obligations, and ongoing agreements, it has been concluded that an acceleration in the current approach is necessary. Regional collaboration is essential in this regard. This has led to a Framework Agreement on housing, welfare, and care for the Baronie region and an implementation program for 2025 and 2026. On Wednesday, April 16, this collaboration was symbolically endorsed by signing a document.
The necessity and urgency are significant
The number of residents in the region is increasing, and the composition is changing. Especially the number of elderly people, individuals in vulnerable positions, and residents with chronic conditions is growing. Sufficient affordable and suitable housing is needed. Nationally, there is also the mandate A Home for Everyone. Furthermore, living costs are rising, and we see shortages and scarcity in more areas, while more is expected from people themselves. All of this impacts daily life, and concerns about the future are increasing. The necessity and urgency to address this is widely recognized and endorsed in the region. Additionally, the law strengthening the management of housing is on the way. A law that expects more management from governments and also encourages strengthening regional cooperation.
