Nominate someone for a royal honour in 2027
On Friday, 24 April 2026, the annual honours list will take place, during which Mayor Jaco Geurts will present royal honours to residents of the municipality of Bunschoten.
They will receive the honour in recognition of their many years of voluntary contributions to society. Self-reliance, private initiative, culture, association and church work are key themes that hold great significance for many residents of the municipality of Bunschoten. The large number of churches, foundations, choirs, sports clubs and other associations rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers. People who have volunteered for a significant period of time for society may be nominated for a royal honour.
Nominations
Although the honours will be awarded this year, we are already looking ahead to next year. Do you know someone who holds a special position in our society and could be eligible for an honour during the 2027 honours list? You have until 1 June 2026 to submit a nomination. This can be done via aanvraag.koninklijkeonderscheidingen.nl. In addition to the annual honours list, an honour may also be awarded at another time. This must be requested from the mayor no later than six months before the date of the award ceremony.
Application
The mayor sends the application, along with his recommendation, to the Commissioner of the King in the province of Utrecht by 1 September at the latest. The Commissioner then also provides their own recommendation. The application and both recommendations are then sent to the Council for Civil Orders, which assesses whether the candidate is eligible and which honour is appropriate. The Council then advises the minister, who drafts a Royal Decree. Once the King has signed this decree, the honour is officially awarded.
