New secondary school UiterWaarden to Zutphenseweg 55

The mayor and aldermen have decided that this location is the most suitable place and will rent the location. The municipality has the legal obligation to arrange housing for schools. UiterWaarden can start at Zutphenseweg 55 on August 1, 2026, once the function (designation) of the location has been adjusted and a permit has been granted. The building currently has the function vocational education and office.

Alderman Ilse Duursma (Education): “Locations for new schools are scarce, but our staff have searched well and found. The combination of location, the large outdoor space and the layout, it is an old school building, makes this location a great opportunity to start well as a school.”

Since June 2025, UiterWaarden has known that as a new school it will receive funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science from August 1, 2026. On its website, UiterWaarden describes itself as a school for future-oriented education, with attention to the individuality of each student. It is a small-scale school for students with advice for mavo/havo and havo/vwo. 

Ninke Beunk, initiator and director of UiterWaarden: “We thank the municipality for the thorough process they have gone through to find a suitable location. The old MTS building has a robust appearance with currently a lively, cultural use. We end up in a piece of historical heritage of Deventer and see opportunities to create a real own place together with students, and with the cooperation of the municipality. This fits with the desire to be an independent school for Deventer and surroundings. In addition, there are already various companies and individuals supporting UiterWaarden with materials, money and manpower; we are grateful for that.”

Interested parents and children can visit the location on February 18 between 16:00 and 18:00. With the other tenants in the building, acquaintance will be made at another time in February.
