Renovation of DTS’48 handball court underway
The DTS handball court was officially declared unfit for use during the inspection in 2025. The asphalt surface of the playing field had cracks, subsidence, and loose edges. Additionally, the dimensions of the playing field no longer met the required standards. Therefore, a complete renovation began in early March to ensure the court meets all regulations and is ready for the coming years.
Planning
Work began in early March, with construction barriers installed and materials temporarily removed. The subsoil is being improved, a new sports technical layer will be added, and the court will be resurfaced. Gutters and paving will also be renewed, new markings will be applied to the playing field, and goals, benches, dugouts, and flagpoles will be reinstalled. The work is expected to take approximately four to five weeks. After the final inspection, DTS’48 will be able to use the court again.
Marc Boeve, chairman of DTS’48, commented:
We are pleased that the court is being renovated. Our members will once again have a safe and pleasant place to train and play matches. The new court will be officially opened on April 12 with a match by the Dames1 team on the renovated field. Let’s hope for some lovely spring sunshine that day!
Councillor Idso Brouwer added:
This renovation was long overdue and essential. Sport brings people together, including the handball club with members from, among other places, Hoogkarspel and Westwoud. I am proud that, together with DTS’48, we are ensuring an outdoor court where players can enjoy sports together once again.
