Currently the work site for Spoorzone Ede, but soon a beautiful park. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved the development plan for the new Frisopark as part of the World Food Center project. The Frisopark connects the monumental barracks areas with the lively station. The atmosphere of the park and the monuments is extended to the entrance of the station tunnel. The parks layout will begin at the end of 2025.
History
The Frisopark once stretched from the barracks buildings to the station road. With the construction of the Klinkenbergerweg, the park was split in two. The soil freed by the road and the construction of the Albertstunnel was used to elevate the park. The edges of the road were planted, fences were installed, and the view of the monumental barracks disappeared. Not only the view, but the area was also not publicly accessible for decades. With the development of the Frisopark, the monumental area opens up for Ede.
Green Entrance from the New Station
In recent years, efforts have been made to create a development plan that aligns with the World Food Center structural vision. Many interests are involved, such as cultural history, greenery, rainwater collection, biodiversity, events, food, and art. All these interests are integrated into this development plan.
Alderman de Pater: “The new Frisopark will soon connect two worlds. It is a monumental park at the foot of Edes finest buildings and a vibrant place. The sunken layout of the station tunnel and the green design of the area extend the ‘atmosphere of the park and the monuments’ to the entrance of the tunnel. This way, both buildings are back in clear view for visitors.” The parks layout will begin at the end of 2025.
