Eight schools fight against electronic waste
Eight teams from primary schools in the municipalities of Eindhoven and Geldrop-Mierlo will participate in the E-waste Race from March 16 to April 9. The project was officially launched in our municipality with a festive kick-off at primary school St. Jozef in Geldrop and a guest lecture on e-waste by Annelie Ninaber van Eijben from Race Against Waste. Students from primary school 't Klokhuis are also taking part in this race.
Over the next four weeks, students from both schools will tackle electronic waste (e-waste). Their goal? To collect as much small electronic waste as possible, reuse it, and have it repaired. This way, they give old devices a second life and make a beautiful contribution to the circular economy!
Do you live near one of the participating schools in Geldrop? Then you can help! Between March 16 and April 9, you can have your small electronic devices picked up for free at home by the students. Report your e-waste easily via: www.ewasterace.nl.
E-waste includes broken or old devices with a plug or battery compartment, such as:
- an old keyboard
- a broken kettle
- a defective mobile phone
- old cables and adapters
Note: ink cartridges, loose batteries, and loose accumulators do not belong to e-waste. Can you remove batteries from devices? Then remove them in advance.
Why participate?
By separately handing in small electronic waste, you prevent harmful substances from ending up in the environment and ensure that valuable raw materials can be reused.
The students earn points by collecting, repairing, and reusing devices. The school with the most points wins a fully organized school trip!
The E-waste Race is made possible by the municipalities of Eindhoven and Geldrop-Mierlo. More information: www.ewasterace.nl.
