Working together for less waste: thanks to our waste heroes
During Waste Heroes Week, we paid tribute to the important work of everyone who daily commits to a clean and sustainable living environment.
On March 5th, the director of RD4, together with an employee, arrived in a waste collection truck in Gulpen-Wittem. This drew attention to the important work of waste collectors, who daily collect our waste and give raw materials a new life.
But the residents of Gulpen-Wittem also make an important contribution. Thanks to the separation of waste and the conscious handling of raw materials, beautiful results are achieved.
Good results in Gulpen-Wittem
The municipalities within RD4 are working together on the Raw Materials Plan 2022–2026. This focuses on less waste, better waste separation, and the reuse of raw materials. From the progress report for the period 2022–2024, it appears that the joint RD4 municipalities already meet the national and European recycling targets.
Gulpen-Wittem is also doing well:
- The separation percentage is around 83% (target: 80%).
- The amount of residual waste is approximately 91 kg per inhabitant, well below the norm of 100 kg.
- The quality of the separated waste is good; in 2025, no full loads were rejected.
These results show that the waste and raw materials policy works and that residents actively contribute to a circular economy.
Continuing to work together for less residual waste
Although much has already been achieved, municipalities and RD4 continue to commit to further reducing residual waste and better utilizing raw materials. This is done, among other things, through communication, education, good facilities, and attention to a clean neighborhood.
Thanks to all waste heroes: the employees of RD4 and all residents who properly separate their waste. Together, we keep Gulpen-Wittem clean and sustainable.
