Future use of Bedum town hall
Bedum town hall think tank opts for hotel, hospitality and school
Members of the Bedum town hall think tank presented their choice for the future use of the former town hall in Bedum on March 9, 2026. The think tank will propose to the municipality to further develop the use of the building with a hotel, hospitality facilities and classrooms for CBS De Regenboog.
About the think tank
The think tank includes representatives from BVGB, Beleef Bedum, APB Bedum and Beemstee. During the preparation phase, the think tank developed three scenarios for the new use of the former Bedum town hall in a bid book (pdf, 2.8 MB). Variant A involved a new use of the monumental section and 20 apartments in the wings. Variant C proposed conversion into homes and hospitality facilities.
More buzz in Bedum
The choice has fallen on variant B: a hotel, hospitality facilities and classrooms. This variant is the most ambitious and meets the desire to create more buzz in Bedum. Jaap Rosema, chairman of Algemeen Plaatselijk Belang Bedum: “It was an intensive search, but the great thing is that we have collectively arrived at this preferred scenario. A variant we believe is best for a vibrant Bedum.” Variant B also aligns with the Dorpsvisie 2030, drawn up by Bedum residents, and with the Toekomstvisie 2040, developed by the municipality together with residents.
The alderpersons Eltjo Dijkhuis and Stefan van Keijzerswaard are delighted with the think tank’s proposal. “All parties have done excellent work. In an open and highly constructive discussion, we worked together to find a good use for the old town hall for the village. A use that meets the need for buzz,” says alderperson Stefan van Keijzerswaard. “Of course, we also considered the need for housing. Yet, collectively, we chose the solution with the greatest social ambition. This is how we hope to fulfill the think tank’s ambition: let Bedum buzz.”
The municipality will take the outcome seriously and will further develop the possibilities in the coming period.
