Free garden greening initiative: swap tiles for plants and trees with Tegeltaxi
Residents can now transform their tiled gardens into green spaces with free plant packages and tree options. The Tegeltaxi service collects removed tiles at no cost, helping combat waterlogging and urban heat while supporting biodiversity. Register by April 1 to participate.

Plant cost-effectively or add trees to your garden and have Tegeltaxi collect your tiles
As a resident, you can take advantage of various garden greening initiatives through GroenDoen. Read more about them here.
Plant packages
Plants retain water, helping to prevent waterlogging during heavy rainfall. Additionally, a green garden provides cooling on hot days. For the GroenDoen initiative, organic nursery Dependens from Bennekom has put together plant packages. These are attractive, popular with bees and butterflies, free of toxins, and affordable.
Trees worth harvesting
Trees provide shade, cooling, and beauty in every season—from spring blossoms to fresh summer foliage and warm autumn colours. They instantly enhance the atmosphere of your garden. For this initiative, we’ve selected species that are both beautiful and edible.
Tegeltaxi
In a garden full of tiles, rainwater cannot soak into the ground. Tiles also retain heat, and insects and other animals gain nothing from them. If you remove tiles from your garden and replace them with greenery, great! We’d love to make it easy for you by collecting the tiles from your property for free.
How does it work?
You must register in advance. Remove tiles from your garden and place them on the GroenDoen action day in the same spot where you dispose of your household waste. This applies only to tiles you remove from your garden and replace with grass or plants—not new tiles. The Tegeltaxi team will not collect tiles from the back of your garden. If you can’t remove the tiles yourself, ask neighbours, family, or friends for help. Interested? You can register for both greening initiatives until April 1.
