Forty apartments to be built on site of former library in Drunen
The municipal executive has a clear ambition: ‘build, build, build’, as there is a great need for housing. In all forms, but especially for first-time buyers, seniors, and social housing. In the centre of Drunen, there is an opportunity to do this on the site of the former library. We have therefore started preparations for the construction of 40 apartments there.
Key principles include the development of age-friendly and affordable homes for seniors, while also preserving green spaces. Puzzling has been done to fit everything together nicely. The neighbourhood has been involved in this through several information evenings. It emerged that there was a strong desire, among other things, to adjust the building height. This has been incorporated into the current design, which is now smaller. We have moved on to the next steps, such as a parking pressure survey in the area, further architectural detailing of the design by Woonveste, and the development of the space around the building by the municipality. Attention is being paid to preserving the green character, parking, and pedestrian routes.
Another step is obtaining a permit for a BOPA. This stands for ‘buitenplanse omgevingsplanactiviteit’ (an activity outside the spatial planning area), which is necessary to deviate from the rules of the environmental plan, as currently only a social function is permitted at this location. The municipal council fully supports this plan. This allowed the municipal executive to proceed, and this week it approved the draft decision to grant this BOPA permit.
