Working together for pleasant living and good care
The municipality faces a major challenge: the number of elderly people in our municipality is growing, people are living longer and staying independent for longer. At the same time, there are fewer informal caregivers and less care staff available. This means there is an increasing need for suitable housing and support for the elderly. Doing nothing is not an option. That is why we are now getting to work on an Implementation Agenda for Housing, Well-being and Care for the elderly.
Deputy Wendy Goodin: “We want everyone to be able to live and enjoy life comfortably, no matter their age. Because that means you can also age well. It is important for residents to think in time about where they want to live now and in the future. We want residents to be able to live at home for as long as possible in a pleasant and safe environment, with support from their surroundings and with new housing and care solutions. And with this implementation agenda, we want to achieve this with concrete actions.”
What do we want to achieve?
With this agenda for housing, well-being and care, we aim for a living and care environment in which the elderly:
- can continue to live at home comfortably and safely for longer;
- receive support from people around them and from professional care;
- can choose from different types of housing;
- benefit from new solutions and technologies;
- live in a municipality where organizations work well together.
The municipality of Lochem is working on this in collaboration with: residents, Welzijn Lochem, housing corporations Viverion and IJsseldal Wonen, care organizations Marga Klompé, Sensire and Zorggroep Sint Maarten, and other parties.
What are we going to do?
Five ‘key priorities’ from the housing and care vision will guide our efforts over the coming years:
- Preventing care needs and thinking about ageing We encourage residents to live healthily, stay socially active and think in time about their future housing situation.
- Support from people around you We strengthen and support informal care alongside professional care, such as neighbourhood networks, informal care (support) and volunteer organizations.
- More suitable housing for the elderly We ensure more suitable and future-proof housing in various forms, with nearby facilities and care options.
- Smart aids and new solutions We encourage the use of technology and other smart solutions.
- Good collaboration between organizations We work together with residents, Welzijn Lochem, housing corporations, care organizations and other parties to better support the elderly.
Getting to work
Under the leadership of a director, we will soon get to work on the new actions from the agenda to prepare our living and care environment for the future.
