Fountain on Mieke de Brefstraat to become green space
The fountain on Mieke de Brefstraat near the Lochtenburg parking garage in Schijndel has not been operational for quite some time. The municipality has decided to give this location a new purpose.
Instead of the fountain, a public garden will be created with various plants, such as asters, salvia, and comfrey. Pedestrian routes have been taken into account. The greenery around the trees will also be improved. This plan will bring more nature to the neighborhood and reduce the amount of stone. This benefits both animals and plants and helps combat heat during the summer.
When will this happen?
This change has been discussed for some time, including with Citymanagement Schijndel. The work will begin in March. By planting in time, the plants can take root properly before the summer heat arrives. Alderman Jan van Burgsteden says: “With this step, we are making the neighborhood more beautiful, sustainable, and pleasant to live in.”
What will happen to other fountains?
The municipality is examining which fountains in Meierijstad can remain. The history, current condition, costs, and sustainability of the fountains are being considered. Some fountains will remain as artworks or water features, but only if they can be modernized. The municipal executive will decide on this shortly.
