Two informateurs get to work: Ernst Radius and Wim Steketee
On the morning of Friday, March 20, the parties that participated in the municipal elections held a clarification discussion led by Mayor Van Mastrigt. Together, they reflected on the outcome and looked ahead to the next steps. In principle, the largest party is asked to propose the informateur. The two largest parties in Middelburg have proposed doing this together. They want to form the driving force together.
GroenLinks/PvdA and the Local Party Middelburg have 7 and 6 seats respectively. Lead candidates Jeroen Louws and Jesse Aarnoutse have proposed appointing two informateurs, one from each party. For GroenLinks/PvdA, this is Ernst Radius. Mr. Radius served on the Middelburg municipal council for the PvdA from 2006 to 2014. He worked for many years as a policy advisor at the national trade association Sociaal Werk Nederland and has been retired for two years. The Local Party Middelburg has proposed Wim Steketee as informateur. Mr. Steketee has been a council member in Middelburg since 2002 and will not be taking a seat in the new council. He worked for many years at the Tax and Customs Administration and is still active as an independent advisor assisting with tax returns. He was also active in the FNV trade union.
The other lead candidates indicated they had no objections to these two informateurs. All parties stated they wanted to engage in discussions primarily along the lines of content.
All parties in the new council will be invited for a meeting with the two informateurs in the coming days, with the aim of presenting a report in the council meeting on April 1. If successful, this could pave the way for the formation process to begin, leading to the formation of the municipal executive.
