Social Team to Host Evening on Autism, Masking, and Boundaries
As part of Autism Awareness Week 2026, which is being observed across the Netherlands with extra focus on autism, the Social Team of Oegstgeest will host a relatable and personal lecture on Thursday, April 9. The event will take place at the Oegstgeest Village Center. Two young women, Amber and Dorotka, will share their personal experiences of living with autism.
Autism Awareness Week is held annually to promote awareness, recognition, and connection. Throughout the country, activities are organized to foster greater understanding and the sharing of experiences. Amber and Dorotka both have personal experience with autism. During this evening, they will discuss autism and masking, recognizing and setting boundaries, finding balance in energy levels, and their own journey in these areas.
Everyone masks to some extent. In social situations, there are many unspoken rules. If you don’t instinctively understand them, it takes a lot of energy to figure out what others expect. Dorotka and Amber will share how they navigate this, how they learn to listen to their bodies, recognize signals, and discover what they need to stay true to themselves.
The evening begins with an open house from 7:00 PM, during which various organizations will be present to provide information about their services. The Rijnlandse Bookstore will also have a book table. The lecture itself will start at 7:30 PM.
The event is intended for anyone who wants to learn more about autism—whether for themselves, their loved ones, professionals, or others interested in the topic. More information:
