Successful and well-attended debate evening in Pardoes brought residents and local politics together
A packed Pardoes was the stage on the evening of Thursday, March 12 for a lively debate in the municipality of Opmeer! The high turnout of over 150 visitors, combined with the passionate statements and cheerful tone of debate leader Kees Vriend, made it a very successful evening. From the start at 19:30, residents of all ages found their way to an evening full of conversation, engagement, and new insights.
The debate evening was under the expert and energetic leadership of Kees Vriend. With his open style of presenting and asking sharp questions, he managed to provoke everyone to share their opinions and engage in conversation with each other. And with the cheerful and humorous tone, there was also laughter! This made for an interesting and fun evening! Debate leader Kees Vriend says: “In Opmeer, it's nice that people govern together in harmony and that you see that on stage. Everyone approached each other with respect. But the differences also became clear at times through the strong positions. It was good for the visitors to be able to experience that too!”
A female visitor says after the debate: “Gosh, I do find it difficult, you know. I came this evening because I'm not yet sure who I will vote for. And now? Sometimes they are close to each other and they all say good things. One moment I thought I had it figured out, only to be convinced again by another party. I'm going to think about it some more!”
Topics that matter in the community
During the debate, topics were discussed that are relevant within the municipality. Think of themes such as housing, safety, and youth participation. There was a lot of interaction with the residents. In advance, visitors could throw questions into a bus, which were occasionally picked up by the debate leader to question a list puller. There was also a lot of input from the audience in verbal form. There was passionate debate about housing development in the green landscape, and there was emotional involvement on the subject of safety and violence against women. It was a valuable evening, in which everyone who wanted to speak – could speak and was heard. Both on stage and in the hall!
