70 new homes in Middenbeemster move to next phase
On Monday, 16 March, Pascal Verkroost, alderman for the Municipality of Purmerend, and Wiesje van der Weide, Managing Director of Wooncompagnie, signed the letter of intent for the development of up to 70 new homes at Tobias de Coeneplein.
With this agreement, the plan—which also includes space for community and care facilities—can be further developed into an urban design plan.
This letter of intent aligns with the Middenbeemster Village Development Vision. This vision outlines the desire to add not only affordable rental homes but also care facilities to the village. Pascal Verkroost: ‘I am pleased that we have found Wooncompagnie as a partner for this development. The demand for housing is high. These affordable homes ensure that more young people can stay in the village and that seniors can continue to live independently in the familiar surroundings of their own village, with care facilities nearby.’
Next phase: developing the urban design plan
Now that the letter of intent has been signed, the parties will proceed with developing the urban design plan. This development will take into account the square and preserve the village structure. Wiesje van der Weide: ‘It is good that we can realise 70 social rental homes here, especially since so many housing seekers in this municipality are waiting for an affordable home. We want to create a place that fits the neighbourhood, with attention to care and community living. This way, we are gradually building a living environment in Middenbeemster where everyone feels welcome and seen.’
The parties expect to have the final design ready in the first half of 2027, after which Wooncompagnie will apply for the environmental permit required for the plan.
100% social
Tobias de Coeneplein will feature exclusively social rental homes. This development will help increase the supply of social rental homes in the village. Additionally, space will be allocated for care facilities at the square. The exact details will be further developed in the next phase.
