New bookshelf brings people together
Councillor Fleur Stip opened a special bookshelf at the library last Wednesday as part of the coalition One Against Loneliness. The initiators aim to use this bookshelf to help people connect with each other.
The councillor, along with library and Facet Ridderkerk staff, put the finishing touches to the bookshelf, marking the official opening. Several other coalition members were also present at the event.
Card or note
Bibliotheek AanZet and Facet created the bookshelf as part of the One Against Loneliness coalition. It contains mainly uplifting and inspiring books, such as stories people can relate to or find hope in.
Loneliness can be a sensitive topic for some, so the library and Facet have chosen not to focus on it directly. Instead, the shelf is filled with feel-good books and motivational stories.
Visitors can also leave a note or card for someone else, such as a compliment or a message for someone looking to make contact. Organisations from the coalition can also place flyers here. The bookshelf is located in the fiction section of the library and is easy to spot.
Councillor Fleur Stip is pleased with the bookshelf: “It’s wonderful that this initiative draws positive attention to the issue of loneliness.”
