Are you walking through the center of Rotterdam? You can now encounter a new crosswalk in the colors of the rainbow. This crosswalk is in a more prominent place in the city than the first colored crosswalk. And the colors are applied in a different way.
With this crosswalk, the municipality aims to increase the acceptance of sexual gender diversity and the awareness of the LGBTQ+ community. The city council has approved the proposal to realize this crosswalk. This fulfills an agreement made with LGBTQ+ organizations in the Rainbow Voting Agreement. On Tuesday, April 8, Alderman Pascal Lansink-Bastemeijer of Public Space unveiled this crosswalk in the center of Rotterdam.

Central Location
The new rainbow crosswalk is located on the Lijnbaan, near the Aert van Nesstraat. COC Rotterdam. Link opens an external page collaborated with the municipality to choose this location. It is more central in the city than the crosswalk at the Westblaak/KarelDoormanstraat intersection. Incidentally, that rainbow path will also remain.
Colors Last Longer
Not only is it a different location, but the colors of the new rainbow crosswalk are also applied differently. The stones are not painted but sprayed in the colors of the rainbow. This makes the crosswalk resistant to bad weather and the colors last longer. Pavers can easily remove and replace the crosswalk if the street is redesigned.
With this new crosswalk, the municipality of Rotterdam gives shape to the rainbow policy from the action plan ‘Living Together in One City’.
