In Rotterdam, many different bee species are flying around. But bees are struggling because there are too few flowering plants and flowers. The good news is: everyone can lend a hand by greening their garden or creating a facade garden. And did you know that it varies per neighborhood which bee species flies around the most?
On the website bijenlandschap.nl/wijkbij. Link opens an external page there are 15 types of bees that occur in and around the city. If you click on the map and enter your postal code, you will see which bee occurs in your neighborhood. For each bee, it is listed which flowers and plants it is attracted to. Is your neighborhood bee, for example, the ivy bee? Then you can plant an ivy (hedera helix). This climbing plant grows quickly, which also allows you to green a fence in the garden or a wall on the balcony.
Join the National Bee Count!
From April 10 to 14, bees are counted across the country and the numbers are entered on the Bee Count website. Have you seen bees in the garden or on the balcony? Then join the National Bee Count. This helps researchers to see where and how many bees occur in the Netherlands.
