Have your say: where could more trees be planted?
We would like to see more trees planted within the built-up areas. Of course, we already have our own ideas about where trees could be planted, but we are also keen to hear your suggestions. That’s why we’ve launched our campaign: “Why isn’t there a tree here yet?”. This is part of the ‘Action Plan for More Trees 2026–2035’. Over the coming years, we will be planting thousands of additional trees.
How can you suggest a new tree?
On our tree wish map, you can see where trees are already growing and where there may still be space for new ones on municipal land. Do you see a spot within the built-up area and on municipal land where a tree would fit? Then click or tap on it. You can submit up to five tree wishes each year.
After you submit your suggestion, we’ll check if the spot is suitable
For example, we won’t plant new trees in places where underground cables or pipes are located. We check this for each tree or small area using the Kadaster (Land Registry).
We aim to ensure a fair distribution of new trees across the entire municipality.
Note: you won’t receive a personal message
However, from 1 September onwards, you can check the tree map to see whether your suggested tree (or trees) has been included. New trees will be planted in the autumn or spring.
Action Plan ‘More Trees’
The campaign ‘Why isn’t there a tree here yet?’ is part of the Action Plan for More Trees. With this plan, we want to work together with local residents to create a greener, healthier and more beautiful living environment. Our goal: to increase the number of trees by 1% each year. This year, around 700 additional trees will be planted.
Another initiative from the plan is the tree subsidy scheme. If you replace paving in your garden with greenery, you can receive up to three free trees. We also have a special campaign for parents who have had a baby this year: you can apply for a birth tree.
