Year 1 students visit the heart of the campus
More than 400 first-year students from Lodewijk College visited the heart of Campus Terneuzen today. This marked the launch of Lodewijk Week, with the theme of wind, water, fire, and earth. On the first day, dedicated to earth, the first-year students took a walking tour with assignments that concluded at the new location of the future education campus on Hughersluys in Terneuzen.
At the future campus site, several buildings have been demolished. The first-year students were given the opportunity to immortalize their names on a piece of rubble, which can later be reused, for example, as a foundation for the campus asphalt. Following this, we took an aerial photo together with Alderman Sonja Suij (Education) and Harry van der Maas, Deputy Provincial Executive of Zeeland (Education). Also present were Patricia Waerniers (General Director of Lodewijk College), Alderman Frank van Hulle, and Alderman Jeroen de Buck.
Project Week
The Lodewijk Weeks are unique school weeks during which students have the opportunity to acquire a wide range of global citizenship competencies. During this specific Lodewijk Week, each day focuses on a different element, all of which are connected to the construction of the campus. At the end of the week, students will present their final projects to parents, involved aldermen, and the project team members from the municipality.
It was a successful moment. It was great to see all the students (literally) contribute their first stone to the heart of the education campus we are building here. It was also wonderful to see a large group of students at this location. In a few years, they and the next generations of first-year students from our region will be able to develop and grow on this campus. That is a promising prospect.
