Free compost at De Hamster
Residents of Texel can collect free compost starting Monday, March 23, 2026, at the renovated waste recycling site De Hamster in De Vang, Oudeschild. The compost is provided by the Municipality of Texel and waste processing company HVC as a thank-you for properly separating organic waste. The offer is available while supplies last.
Clean compost from organic waste
The compost is made from collected organic waste, such as potato peels, chicken bones, and apple cores. By separating organic waste, this material can be reused as valuable compost, which benefits the soil and the environment. Each full green 140-litre container yields approximately 15 to 20 kilograms of compost.
Maximum one trailer per household
Each household may fill a maximum of one trailer with compost. Collection is possible during De Hamster’s regular opening hours. The waste drop-off station is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 12:15 and from 13:00 to 16:00.
Working together for a clean Texel
With this initiative, the Municipality and HVC are thanking all residents for their efforts in waste separation. By properly separating organic waste, less residual waste remains, and valuable raw materials can be reused.
