Open Club Klimmen: The beating heart of Klimmen officially opens
The Open Club Klimmen officially opened its doors on Saturday, March 14. What a fantastic day it was! The weather showed all its faces: snow, rain, and sunshine. Yet that didn’t keep anyone at home. Interest was high from the very first moment.
After the welcome speech by Mayor Joppe, Alderman Braun looked back on a fourteen-year journey. The first seed for the Open Club was planted back in 2012. Over the years, more and more parties became enthusiastic. The initial ambition was grand: six thousand square meters would be needed to meet all wishes. By smartly combining functions such as a canteen, meeting room, and other facilities, the idea grew into the compact, vibrant reality it is today. The municipality has been driving this initiative for years but now hands over the Open Club Klimmen with a sense of satisfaction to its users.
At the same time, the alderman emphasized that this is not an endpoint. There are still dreams to be realized: a community garden, a connection with the work-learn company, and possibly even padel courts.
Following the speeches, the Wil Houbenhof was opened and blessed by the priest. After lunch, Alderman Leunissen officially opened the Open Club Klimmen itself.
During the open day, all rooms hosted activities organized by the users. Children proudly showed their school classrooms to parents and grandparents. There was face painting, the gym was filled with movement including fall prevention for the elderly, the brass band provided music, and the canteen buzzed with cozy gatherings.
We can conclude that the Open Club Klimmen has quickly grown into the beating heart of Klimmen. A place full of energy, by and for young and old alike. Fittingly, the building itself also generates energy, thanks to the many solar panels and smart technical features.
