Historic farm makes way for future-proof housing in Alphen
Just outside the centre of Alphen, on the site of the old farm at Heuvelstraat 54, lies a unique opportunity for the village. For years, the De Leeuw family lived and worked here, running a fruit-growing business. The farm has stood empty for some time now. Now, developer Reuvers Ontwikkeling & Bouw and the municipality of West Maas en Waal are taking a new step together to give this piece of history a future-proof purpose.
Letter of intent signed
Last week, both parties signed a letter of intent. In doing so, they have agreed to explore together how approximately 29 new homes could be built on this site. The development will bring new construction to Alphen: a mix of housing types that will strengthen and vitalise the village. The majority of the plan consists of (affordable) space for both first-time buyers and seniors. Part of the housing will also be social rentals. This will create a mix that fits well with the scale of Alphen.
Space for landscape and liveability
The plan carefully takes the surroundings into account. The rural character will be preserved by making room for an organic orchard. The new homes will be integrated in a way that complements the open landscape and the history of the site.
A development that fits Alphen
Councillor Marieke van den Boom is enthusiastic about this step: “This development gives Alphen a great opportunity to grow in a way that suits the village. With housing for both first-time buyers and seniors, we are strengthening liveability and building towards a future-proof living environment. We are doing this carefully, together with residents and with an eye for the quality of the landscape.”
The developer will further elaborate the plan in the coming period. Research will also be carried out to refine the design. Participation is an important part of the next steps. The aim is to publish a design plan after the summer. This will allow the next step in the process to be taken.
