Open Doors: Kwekerij Monnikenwaard

The College of Mayor and Aldermen recently paid a visit to Kwekerij Monnikenwaard. This company specializes in growing Santini’s: colorful spray chrysanthemums that are cultivated year-round.

With a production of approximately 650,000 stems per week, an efficient and careful approach is essential. During the visit, we were briefed on how the company manages energy and raw materials. The greenhouses are fully equipped with modern LED lighting. This lighting ensures optimal growth of the flowers while consuming less energy than traditional lamps. Water is also collected and reused, minimizing waste.

Additionally, the processing stage utilizes modern machinery to assist in sorting and packaging the flowers, ensuring consistent quality.

A fine example of how craftsmanship, innovation, and a focus on sustainability come together in the floriculture sector in the Bommelerwaard region.
