Information board about millstones unveiled
Deputy Mayor Ernst Bron unveiled an information board about the millstones on Friday morning, March 13. The board provides details about the journey these stones took before being placed at the entrance of the Molenbuurt (Mill District). The stones now stand at the corner of Telluur and Molenvang.
Millstones find new location
The millstones had been situated at the corner of Zuiderzeeweg and Marktpad for over 20 years. Over time, construction in the area made them less visible to passersby. To ensure they would be more prominent, the stones were relocated to a new, striking, and fitting spot in the Molenbuurt.
Molen De Vlijt in Meppel
The millstones originally came from Molen De Vlijt in Meppel and were removed around 1954. They were intended to be placed in a gap in the dike of Oostelijk Flevoland, but due to an error, they ended up at the bottom of the Zuiderzee. Ten years later, during the reclamation of the polder, the stones were recovered from the seabed. After a long journey through the polder, the stones finally arrived in Zeewolde in 2004.
