Marken Harbour nearly fully renovated
Published on: 27 March 2026, 09:57
In the winter of 2025–2026, Rijkswaterstaat worked on the harbour in Marken. From 1 April 2026, the traditional start of the boating season, boat owners will once again be able to moor at the renovated pier in the centre of the harbour. A small portion of the paving work will be postponed to April and October.
Over the past few months, we replaced the Middelbreg pier in the centre of the harbour. Boat owners temporarily moored their vessels elsewhere outside Marken during the work. This winter, existing paving stones were also relaid throughout the harbour, and potholes in the roadways were repaired.
Harbour renovation
During the previous winter season of 2024–2025, we also replaced the Rijksloop pier and the planks of the Middelbreg. The renovation of the harbour is part of the dijkversterking Marken project.
Snow and cold
Due to heavy snow and cold temperatures in January 2026, we unfortunately fell behind schedule with repaving work in the harbour. As a result, we will continue working on the harbour’s head for a few more weeks in April. The remaining work will then be carried out in October, after the peak of the tourist season, as currently planned. At that time, we will repave the final sections, install new benches and waste bins, and replace the last staircases.
