Currently, the NCDR is working hard with the cabinet on the 3rd National Program against Discrimination and Racism. This program is being developed by the NCDR in collaboration with various departments. Since this is a multi-year program, the NCDR will also be maintained for multiple years. The institute will thus exist until 2029.
At the same time, it has been decided to change the role and structure of the NCDR towards the future. The NCDR plays an important role in driving and signaling themes and must be able to perform that role independently, according to the cabinets conviction. Therefore, the cabinet wants to make a clearer distinction between this advisory role and the position of the cabinet, which ultimately must approve the multi-year programs. By making the NCDRs function more advisory, the independent position of the NCDR is strengthened. This also aligns it more with other government commissioners, such as the National Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism (NCAB).
The approach to discrimination and racism is an important topic for the cabinet. The governing program states that the cabinet is working on both addressing and preventing all forms of discrimination and racism. In addition to the multi-year program, the cabinet is working on other measures. In the progress letter sent today, it is stated, among other things, that in response to the bill on Protection against Discrimination on the BES, which was passed by the House of Representatives, work is being done to establish a combined legal aid and anti-discrimination facility there. The cabinet is also working on making anti-discrimination facilities more child-friendly and will soon follow a plan for tackling online discrimination.
