If possible, try to avoid the Randstad by working from home as much as possible from Monday, June 23, to Thursday, June 26, 2025, not traveling during peak hours, and using public transport. This will keep the region of The Hague as accessible as possible.
Disruption from Sunday afternoon, June 22 to Friday, June 27
Road users between Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam should already take into account the first disruptions on the road starting Sunday afternoon, June 22. This is due to necessary preparations, such as setting up barriers. Due to (temporary and partial) closures of (motor)ways, entrances and exits, viaducts, and tunnels on the A5, A4, A44, and N44 roads, there is a chance of significant disruption from that moment until Thursday, June 26. The same applies to regional and local roads around and in The Hague, Wassenaar, Katwijk, Noordwijk, Haarlemmermeer, Leiden, and Rotterdam. Emergency services (police, ambulance, and fire department) will have free passage for emergency trips on local and regional roads where they cross the closed routes. This way, they can quickly reach their destination, even if highways are closed.
Public Transport
There are no restrictions on the railways. NS will operate the normal timetable to ensure that people can travel from A to B. However, it may become busier on the train. There is no extra capacity available to reduce that congestion. It is not yet exactly known what the consequences will be for local public transport companies. It is expected that public transport lines may also become busier and that some lines may be canceled.
Still on the Road?
If you must go out, leave the car at home if possible, travel by public transport, take the bike, or walk. The advice is to prepare well before leaving home by consulting the website www.vananaarbeter.nl, your province or municipalitys website, the public transport companies, or www.schiphol.nl in advance. Keep an eye on current traffic information and follow the detour routes via the signs above and along the road. In any case, be prepared for significant disruptions and (much) longer travel times.
